Formicarium Furniture

Ants living in your furniture

I thought an ant colony would be cool to have, but where could I put it where it wouldn't get in the way? If it was simultaneously a coffee table then it would be a very trendy bit of talking-point furniture, and I would also have a formicarium. To expand the idea furthur, you could make pluggable formicarium parts which you could build all sorts of furniture out of, and keep lots of ants and maybe other colony insects in observable places in your living space. Would need a lot of development though to avoid this being leaky and high maintenance furniture...

The train of thought went like this:

Hmmm, could make a coffee table out of some double glazing.
Why not put ants in it!
Ah, would have to have triple-glazing to prevent the ants getting scorched by drinks.
Oooh, why not have a shelf, which is itself a formicarium, and transparent pipes running up the legs, so the ants can live on more than one level?
Hmmmm. Why not make standard parts which can clip together to form furniture: sort of like a cross between those sprawling hamster cages, and IKEA furniture. You could have ants crawling all through your furniture. Very visually appealing, in a sort of a way...
